About Ricky De La Cruz

With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant families are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure.  The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses.  In DeKalb, volunteers are raising funds for COTA in honor of transplant patients like local teen, Ricky De La Cruz.

Ricky is the son of Eradio and Dori De La Cruz.  Born on July 17, 1998, Ricky was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.  The doctors at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, performed a life-saving heart transplant on January 29, 2018.  An estimated $40,000 is being raised by DeKalb volunteers.
